Self-Compassion

“Why self-compassion? I need to be stronger, not kinder.”

There is a misconception in our busy society that self-compassion is a form of weakness and passivity. Yet, self-compassion is a cultivated strength-based skill that motivates us to take healthy actions to address pains and sufferings in our lives. Rather than being stuck in feeling like you’re “never doing enough,” self-compassion can help you feel content and empowered to live a life meaningful to you.

Self-compassion is

  1. Acknowledging that life includes distressing situations and suffering

  2. Understanding that my emotional, cognitive, physiological, and behavioral reactions to suffering are part of being human due to how my brain is designed to work.

  3. Wanting to help myself alleviate my distress through curious, warm, intentional, and value-based skills.
